Our multi-vessel liveaboard operation will be a first of its kind to fish the northern reaches of Fraser Island, this is a unique fishing adventure you will not want to miss! The diversity this area has to offer is what keeps us coming back; one minute juvenile Black Marlin with a sand island back drop and next hauling up Red Emperor from the deep blue. Hervey Bay is renowned for its light tackle sportfishing, yet also boasts the opportunity to fish north and east of the island around iconic Breaksea Spit. Here we target tasty reef and pelagic species, using techniques like jigging, soft plastics, live/dead bait fishing and can see great GT fishing as well. Heavy tackle options are a go on the continental shelf here for Giant Blue and Black Marlin, with the by-catch just as exciting. Fraser Island fishing inside the bay produces Snapper, Mulloway, Golden Trevally, Giant Herring, Giant Blackspot Tusk Fish, Longtail Tuna and of course the famous juvenile Black Marlin run will be in full swing right at our anchorage.
The area provides options in all-weather situations, however this time of the year boasts very stable weather patterns with little wind in the AM and light NE wind building in the afternoon. Our main anchorage is the famous “Rooney Point”. Here we get great protection from the trade NE winds in the afternoons.
Our mothership is the 65′ “Australiana”. She is a custom built liveaboard charter vessel recently refitted with spacious accommodation and each guest gets their own private berth. She has 2 bathrooms and a spacious saloon area and will also be carrying two dories for flats fishing around Rooney Point. The Australiana is crewed by a skipper, chef and deckhand/host and whilst aboard our fishing weapon, ‘Good Company’, you will be accompanied by our Noosa Sportfishing Lodge owner & skipper, Jackson, and our deckhand.
Transfer to Urangan marina from Hervey Bay Airport if required, where you will hop aboard Good Company and make the journey north to our anchorage and rendezvous with the Australiana. Here you will be welcomed by the crew, given a tour and safety briefing of the vessels and operations. Once settled, back onto Good Company for an afternoon fish and head back to the mothership around sunset for drinks and dinner where we will have another briefing about the plan for tomorrow.
Rise early, breakfast and get stuck into the fishing. Depending on the weather and general consensus, lunch will be packed for a full day of fishing, expecting an afternoon return to the mothership. Alternatively, there is the option to fish the morning, return to base for lunch and head out again for the afternoon session. Dinner, drinks and nightly briefing with Skipper, Jackson Boric, discussing the day that was and the day ahead.
Once back aboard the Australiana on the final night of the trip, we will up anchor and begin to steam south toward Urangan. In the morning, you will wake up close to port for a seamless transfer off the vessel.
Enjoy a relaxing morning on Day 5. Time to get packed and up to the saloon for breakfast. Here you will have a debrief of the trip with Jackson and a lucky winner will be presented an award for fish of the week! Hop back aboard Good Company and you will be transferred back to Hervey Bay marina for any connecting transfers.
The rate above is based on private room occupancy for a 5 day/4 night trip. Please enquire if you require an alternative trip duration.
